The 2025 edition of the Gender Equality Index for the European Union is available

On 2 December, EIGE published the 2025 edition of the Gender Equality Index for the European Union.

This year’s edition marks the first major upgrade since the Index launched over a decade ago. Work patterns, caring roles and digitalisation have transformed – and continue to evolve. The Index this year has adjusted its methodology to reflect today’s realities.
According to the new data sources from EIGE’s Gender Equality Index 2025, interesting to note that women need to work 15½ months to earn what men make in a year. These lost months – also known as the ‘ghost quarter’ represent time not spent with family, studying, training or resting. Essentially, women are working this period for free. The new web interface allows to easily grasp the current state and progress over time, by country and by domain.
