Cusanus Hochschule für Gesellschaftsgestaltung‘s vision is of a sustainable world: a vibrant and diverse environment, a solidarity-based and democratic society, and a just and life-sustaining economy.
The mission of the university is to enable the building of this world even in uncertain, conflictual and contradictory times. In teaching, research and social dialogue, it relies on freedom, diversity and mutual reference.
It reflexively underpins academic disciplines and addresses their historicity as well as their paradigmatic preconditions. On this basis, the university is characterized by an orientation towards social responsibility, personal development, transdisciplinarity and participation. The active co-creation in teaching, research, institution and social dialogue on the part of students is an integral part of university life.
Cusanus is looking to fill a professorship for political economy at its new location in Koblenz, Germany, starting in the winter semester 21/22: Professorship for Political Economy and Transformation [f; m; d] (full-time)
The position is initially limited to 5 years.
We understand political economy as a series of approaches that constitute an interdisciplinary field of teaching and research in which the political design and shaping of the economy on multiple levels is in the foreground, whereby the economy is understood as the social organization of social provision, i.e. as a part of society. Against this background, we expect the candidate to further develop the profile of our university as a place of scientific debate on the transformation of the economy in the face of multiple ecological, political and social contemporary crises, with a focus on socio-ecological transformation processes from the perspective of society as a whole and economic policy.
We particularly welcome spezialization in the field of
– transformation-oriented analyses of the monetary and financial system as well as economic policy alternatives (e.g. in fiscal policy, inequality policy (just transitions), industrial policy, climate policy);
– Discussions of new economic forms and their institutional design from a social-scientific or economically heterodox perspective.
Other focal points are conceivable; consideration of the global context is desirable. Applicants from all social science disciplines are welcome. An orientation towards economic topics in research and teaching as well as at least the ability to speak to economic research of heterodox or orthodox orientation is indispensable.
A well-connected and committed individual with experience in research-based teaching and learning at universities and with a discernible interest in social dialogue is sought. The university attaches particular importance to the didactic aptitude of the sought-after personality.
The documentation of the didactic suitability takes place through the submission of a teaching portfolio and a teaching profile for the advertised professorship as well as, if applicable, supplementary documents (evaluations, further training, teaching awards, etc.). The ability and willingness to continuously improve the quality of teaching is expected, as well as the development and expansion of research activities, in particular the acquisition of third-party funding and internal and external cooperation with collaborative and practical partners.
The willingness to assume a leading position in the area of study programs or research as well as the willingness to actively participate in the further development of the university is required. The hiring requirements according to § 49 HochSchG Rhineland-Palatinate apply. In addition to an outstanding doctorate, additional scientific achievements in the subject area of the professorship are expected.
Equal opportunities are part of our personnel policy. The Cusanus University of Applied Sciences for Social Design strives to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages appropriately qualified women to apply. People with severe disabilities will be given preferential consideration if they are suitable. Applications from people with an international profile and migration background are expressly welcome.
For questions regarding the professorship, please contact Prof. Dr. Stephan Panther (stephan.panther@cusanus-hochschule.de). Please send applications in electronic form with the above-mentioned as well as the other usual documents (curriculum vitae, references, list of publications, information on scientific activities, previous teaching activities and, if applicable, third-party funding successfully obtained to date) by 12.07.2021 as one coherent PDF file to bewerbung@cusanus-hochschule.de.
