The University of Bayreuth’s newly founded Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition & Health is currently seeking to appoint a Junior Professor of Global Nutrition & Health as a fixed-term civil servant at pay grade W1 to commence as soon as possible.
This tenure track professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States.
We are looking for an early-career scholar who is able to work independently and who possesses a high degree of development potential. The applicant should represent the field of nutrition and health with a global orientation in research and teaching.
The professorship is designed to establish a link between producing and ensuring a safe supply of food worldwide, the social and cultural aspects of nutrition, and the effects on health in a global context from a scientific point of view. One focus of research activities should be on the cultural, political, economic, and/or ecological factors influencing nutrition, physical activity, and health at the micro and macro scales in both developing and industrialized countries.
The successful applicant will be actively involved in setting up the new Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition & Health. This includes, in particular, the conception and establishment of new interdisciplinary B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes, such as the M.Sc. “Global Food, Nutrition & Health”.
The aim is to recruit a university lecturer whose research orientation and project experience (ideally abroad) can help to link the individual fields of the faculty and participate in inter- and transdisciplinary research projects.
Further university links are possible with the focus area “Food & Health Sciences” or subject areas from the University of Bayreuth’s other faculties such as African studies, medical management, human medicine (Erlangen / Nürnberg – Bayreuth), and sport science. The ability to teach in English is a prerequisite for employment, as substantial parts of the new faculty’s teaching programme will be offered in English; international applicants must be willing and able to teach in German within three years. The requirements for hiring professors at universities in the State of Bavaria apply.
The appointment will initially be for a period of three years as a fixed-term civil servant. In the course of the third year, the junior professorship will be extended by up to three additional years with the consent of the junior professor if he or she has proven successful as a university lecturer. The complete vacancy notice can be found here.
