EPWS’s commitment to raising awareness of gender equality issues in society is particularly strong at this time of year.

Our daily work as role models and activists is essential, especially in these dark and troubling times, when the values we believe in and work for —equity, fairness, inclusion, and cooperation— are being questioned and even undermined at the international level. As European women in science, we feel a greater responsibility than ever to stand up for and defend these values.
Ongoing wars and new conflicts are destabilizing the world, contributing to injustices —especially for the most vulnerable— and deepening divisions among peoples. We reaffirm that EPWS will continue to support the values of life, peace, freedom, and cooperation, as opposed to death, hatred, oppression, and isolation, and to promote this responsibility within the scientific community and in society.

EPWS extends its best wishes for the success of the initiatives being organized and supported by all of us for this International Women’s Day.
