Margarete Maurer has an academic education in Biochemistry, Philosophy, and Sociology at the Universities of Tubingen, Osnabruck and Vienna. She is now a lecturer for theoretical aspects in the Life Sciences at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna, especially “nature”, “gender” and philosophy/sociology of science.
In 1990, she initialized a non-profit, non-university research institute “Rosa-Luxemburg-Institut”, with emphasis on Gender Studies in S & T and “Gender & developmentā, of which she was the director of research until 2003.
