Katalin Balázsi is a head of Thin Film Physics Department, Centre for Energy Research, Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest, Hungary.
She obtained her PhD at the Slovak Technical University in 2005. Her research focuses on the development of different ceramics, mainly protective coatings, bioceramics and ceramics for tribological applications.

She is a president of the Association of the Hungarian Women in Science, secretary of the Hungarian Society for Microscopy and council member of the European Ceramic Society.

She has published more than 100 journal papers with 600 independent citations. She is working as PI in several national and EU FP7, M-ERANET projects and working as supervisor for 6 PhD students.
