The European Spallation Source (ESS) Council has appointed Giovanna Fragneto as next ESS Science Director. Located in Lund (Sweden), ESS is a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC), a multi-disciplinary research facility based on the future world most powerful neutron source.
Giovanna Fragneto has always been committed to girls and women in Science. Since 2004, she is an active member of Parité Science (http://parite-science.fr), member of EPWS, working closely with the French association Femmes & Sciences (https://www.femmesetsciences.fr/), also member of EPWS. She has been president of Parité Science from 2012 to 2016.
Giovanna Fragneto thanked the association Parité Science on the occasion of her nomination as Science Director of ESS saying: “discovering the work of Parité Science (formerly APMST) allowed me to open the eyes on many issues regarding gender parity in science, including the glass ceiling, and my participation to discussions and activities led by the association has greatly influenced the approach to my scientific career in the last fifteen years and encouraged me to take this step forward.”
EPWS congratulates Giovanna Fragneto and wishes her full success in her new position.
