On 10 December 2025, the President of EPWS, Lucia Martinelli, was invited by Carmen Pérez-Llantada, PI of the Erasmus+ DILAN (Digital Language and Communication Training for EU Scientists) project, to deliver the keynote lecture “When Communication Shapes Decision: the Science–Policy Connection”.

The DILAN project aims to promote civic engagement, social responsibility, and the democratization of science by enhancing scientists’ digital literacy and communication resilience when addressing diverse public and policy audiences.
In her keynote, Lucia Martinelli discussed key theoretical aspects of science communication, focusing on why and how scientists should engage with policymakers. Drawing on her professional experience, she highlighted how science and politics are closely interconnected, how words and vocabulary carry values that shape political possibilities, and the crucial role of EPWS in fostering constructive dialogue between the scientific community, policymakers, and society.
