Professorship (W3) for Machine Components at University of Stuttgart

The professorship is associated with the management of the Institute of Machine Components (IMA). A close cooperation and coordination in research and teaching with the existing professorship “Railway Vehicle Technology” at the institute is expected. A cooperation with colleagues within faculty 7 and other faculties is desired.

The tasks of the professorship include teaching and research in the field of smart, reliable machine components in mechanical and vehicle engineering.

At component and module level, the focus is on researching and developing new types of machine elements that take into account new additive manufacturing processes and which, in addition to the existing mechanical capabilities, can generate sensor-based information and execute actuator-based actions to enable self-regulating and autonomous systems. The description of the machine elements shall be integrated into a model-based development methodology.
