May Morris

M.C.Morris obtained her PhD in Biology and Health Sciences at the University of Montpellier, France, in 1997 and completed her postdoctoral training at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, USA. In 2000, she was hired as a tenured junior CNRS researcher and joined the Research Centre on Macromolecular Biochemistry in Montpellier, France. In 2005, she established her own research group and in 2010, she was promoted CNRS Research Director. In 2014 she moved to the Institute of Biomolecules Max Mousseron, where she is currently in charge of the “Kinase Biosensors and Inhibitors”, Cellular Pharmacology group. Her research interests concern molecular signalling in cancer, development of biosensing technologies for diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.

She was awarded the CNRS Bronze Medal in 2006, the “Scientist of the Future” award from Languedoc-Roussillon Region in 2009, MATWIN Oncology Academic Prize in 2019 and the Legion d’Honneur in 2020. She has published over 75 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 18 chapters in books and 9 patents (Total citations : 5826, h-factor: 34 (ISI Web of Science). In 2017 she coordinated and launched the regional initiative BIOCCI « Biocapteurs & Biosenseurs en Occitanie».
Active member of Femmes & Sciences (French Women & Science Association) since 2008, and Council Board Member from 2013-2018, she established the first Mentoring Programme for Female doctoral students which became fully recognized and supported by the University of Montpellier in 2017, and organized the annual Femmes & Sciences conference in 2017 on Mentoring, Coaching and Professional Support for Scientific Women. She currently coordinates the F&S group in Montpellier, which counts over 60 members.
