Mostly in person, the conference “Women and Science: twenty years ago, twenty years from now” celebrated in Bologna the 20th anniversary of the “Donne e Scienza” association (CNR Bologna, 14-17 November 2023). The conference focused on issues and changes over time, analysing the historical, social, political, and cultural data and contexts, and reflected on possible future scenarios for women in science. Topics covered included the European context (with a keynote address by Anne Pépin from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation), technical and scientific education and training, gender innovation, environment and gender, gender
and science communication, and power and women.
Recalling the important steps taken by Donne e Scienza, Flavia Zucco (the first representative of Donne e Scienza on the EPWS Board of Administration) recalled the role of the association in the foundation of EPWS. The EPWS President, Lucia Martinelli, presented the history and activities of EPWS and recalled the role of the EPWS Honorary Presidents, Brigitte Mühlenbruch and Claudine Hermann.
