The 6th International Symposium of AMONET, a EPWS member association, took place at Évora University, last 5 December 2022. The conference opened with addresses by Elvira Fortunato (Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education), Hermínia Vilar (Rector of the host University), and Ana Freitas (President of AMONET and former rector of the venue University). Gulsun Saglamer (President of the European Women Rectors Association EWORA) presented the talk “Women Leadership: problems and challenges”, followed by a round table on Gender Equality Plans (GEP) at Portuguese research and academic institutions.
Lígia Amâncio (AMONET representative in the EPWS Board of Administration) discussed the bright and the dark side of parity in Portuguese science and Claudio Colaiacomo presented Elsevier data on gender in the Portuguese research arena. After a panel with the three young women researchers awarded the L’Oréal Medals in 2022, a panel of three couples of scientists representing different generations concluded the conference discussing family and research conciliation constraints. The event was an opportunity of a lively debate on both the proud and painful aspects of the situation facing women scientists in Portugal.
